Clinical Responsibilities

To participate in and contribute to the clinical/ward pharmacy service. To promote and deliver pharmaceutical care for patients. To provide highly specialised and complex evidence-based clinical advice and information using expert knowledge and experience to pharmacy, nursing, medical and other healthcare professionals on the care and treatment of patients, inside and outside of the Trust. To practice as an independent prescriber, in area of own expertise, and provide direct high quality of care to inpatients and outpatients within scope of practice. To actively participate regularly in multidisciplinary ward rounds, antibiotic ward rounds and other multidisciplinary meetings as appropriate, delivering and promoting high quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care. To participate in patient education and counselling schemes for patients and carers. To ensure appropriate and timely supply of medication to patients in conjunction with dispensary staff, including the POD scheme and discharge facilitation for patients. To participate in Trust adverse incident reporting scheme.

Education and Training (KCH)

• Develop and implement processes for collecting trainee feedback to inform and improve pharmacy education and training programmes.

• Chair Practice Supervisor meetings and contribute to Trust educational forums, including the Local Faculty Group.

• Collaborate with pharmacy, primary care and external partners to develop cross-sector training opportunities.

• Monitor, report and present education, training and workforce development activity to the Principal Pharmacist for Education, Training and Development.

• Contribute to the development and implementation of study leave policies and review study leave requests.

• Work with clinical pharmacy teams to align education and training initiatives with patient care priorities, service needs and risk management requirements.

• Maintain clinical pharmacy service standards and demonstrate professional accountability to patients, colleagues and the wider profession.

• Maintain educational data and contribute to workforce planning, performance monitoring and service reporting.

• Represent pharmacy in Trust-wide, regional and national education and workforce development activities, contributing to the sharing and development of best practice.

• To support statutory and mandatory training and appraisals at the DMH site as needed

Academic Role (KCL)

To liaise with the clinical staff to facilitate undergraduate teaching at the KCH base. To act as co-ordinator where KCH Trust staff deliver undergraduate teaching to KCL students. To act as a professional role model to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Provide leadership and contribute to and develop the established KCL undergraduate or postgraduate pharmacy courses. To assist in academic administrative duties such as examinations, curriculum development, careers advice and pastoral care. To be a personal tutor for students on the MPharm programme. To participate in education and training programmes to develop skills as part of a commitment to continuing education and the concept of lifelong learning. Working with our training partners to implement and innovate undergraduate and post graduate pharmacy placements cross-site. Design, deliver and assess elements of the MPharm programme including the Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs). To act as Professional lead for one year of the KCL MPharm programme. Work with pharmacy staff hosting placement students to develop their skills in education, identifying the training needs of pharmacy staff in order to undertake the roles required. To design and supervise undergraduate research projects as appropriate. To support the admissions process through undertaking candidate interviews.
