Job description
THE STROKE SERVICE
There is a combined stroke unit based on Wye Ward. We have 6 HASU beds and 20 ASU and rehab beds within the same location. There arestroke specialist nurses, a research practitioner and a full multidisciplinary team who work together with daily consultant rounds and MDTmeetings.
The consultants provide a rapid access neurovascular clinic during weekdays, and there is a neuroradiology meeting. There is an early supported stroke discharge team and a community stroke rehabilitation team.
The Trust are due to launch a new workforce model which includes, Clinical Nurse Specialists, AHP Consultants, Pharmacists, Clinical Fellowsand Physicians Associates to support the Consultant workforce in partnership with Worcester Acute Trust.
CONTINUING EDUCATIONYou will be facilitated in developing your career and in particular your skills in stroke management. Opportunities in acute medicine and outpatientscan be made available if required. The hospital is currently developing out of programme training posts.
The postgraduate centre, containing the medical library, lecture theatre and meeting rooms, is at the County Hospital, and accommodates acomprehensive range of postgraduate meetings and lectures. All medical staff are expected to take an active part in postgraduate activities. Thepost-holder will be expected to contribute to the teaching of junior medical staff and visiting medical students and of nurses and other paramedicalstaff.The department of medicine sets aside one half-day each week for postgraduate teaching and medical audit. Activities include a weekly clinicalcase conference, regular radiology and audit meetings, seminars and bedside teaching for FY1s and middle grade staff, (separately or jointlyaccording to topic). All junior staff in the department are expected to participate fully in these activities.
Regular bedside and tutorial teaching sessions are given to FY1s and CMTs preparing for MRCP.
Advice on postgraduate education and career counselling may be obtained from the postgraduate clinical tutor, and also any of the consultant staffwould be pleased to offer help and advice.
The FY1 posts are approved pre-registration appointments.
Study leave is available for recognised courses in accordance with the regulations.
