JOB DESCRIPTION
DISPENSER / TECHNICIAN TO JOIN OUR DISPENSING TEAM
JOB TITLE: DISPENSER / TECHNICIAN
REPORTS TO: DISPENSARY MANAGER
HOURS: 37 HOURS PER WEEK / FULL TIME
MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE
The following are the core responsibilities of the Dispenser. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
Dispensing acute and repeat prescriptions following the practice SOPs.
Updating patients medication records on doctors instructions.
Dealing with patients at the front desk, handing out medication and dealing with any queries as they arise.
Checking colleagues dispensing (dependant on experience/qualifications)
Dispensing weekly medication into Nomad packaging and checking Nomad packs (dependant on experience)
Ensuring the dispensary area remains clean and tidy.
Recording transfer of Controlled medication stock via online CD register.
Meet the requirements of the Dispensary Services Quality Scheme.
Collecting prescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol
Maintaining stock levels within the dispensary, liaising with the dispensary manager to facilitate reordering
Receiving and storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chain is maintained where applicable
Safe disposal of returned and / or out of date medicines
Preparing prescriptions for submission to the NHSBA for payment each month
Using computer systems to check patients discharge summaries and clinic letters when required
Communicate effectively with the Dispensary Team, wider practice team and patients

In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential
Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:
• Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines
• Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
• Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
• Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
• Reporting potential risks identified

Contribution to the Implementation of Services:
The post-holder will:
• Apply Practice policies, standards and guidance
• Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work
• Participate in audit where appropriate
