PharmSee's 11 June 2026 job market snapshot shows 1,407 active community pharmacy chain vacancies across ten tracked employer feeds — alongside 560 NHS Jobs listings covering hospital, primary care, and community trust posts. Taken together, the 1,967-vacancy total gives the sharpest picture yet of where UK pharmacy hiring activity is concentrated this month, and which employers are driving demand at each segment of the workforce.

Chain-by-chain: who is advertising, and for what

The market is significantly concentrated. Boots UK and Well Pharmacy together account for 865 of the 1,407 community chain listings — 62% of the community total — reflecting both their scale and, in Well's case, a sustained recruitment drive that has kept its vacancy count above 300 for several consecutive months.

What Boots is hiring for

PharmSee's 200-record sample of Boots UK listings shows "Dispenser" as the dominant title, appearing in approximately 58% of postings. Pharmacist roles account for roughly 30%, with a smaller number of Dispensing Store Manager (small and medium format) roles. The high dispenser proportion is consistent with sector-wide patterns: the dispensing support tier is where vacancy rates are most acute in community pharmacy, as qualified pharmacist supply compresses towards NHS and independent prescribing roles.

What Well Pharmacy is hiring for

Well Pharmacy's role mix is notably different. Among the top titles in a 200-record Well sample, Relief Pharmacist roles appear most frequently (approximately 22% of the sample), followed by Pharmacist (14.5%), Pharmacist Manager (13.5%), and Qualified Pharmacy Assistant (9%). The prominence of relief pharmacist roles — covering short-notice and ad hoc rota gaps — reflects a chain-wide approach that combines permanent community pharmacists with a significant flexible workforce to manage rota volatility.

Rowlands: an expanded feed in June 2026

One of the more striking features of the June 2026 snapshot is Rowlands' position with 193 active listings — a figure substantially higher than the approximately 20 Rowlands listings captured in PharmSee's May 2026 equivalent snapshot. The increase is notable but should be interpreted with caution.

PharmSee's full 193-record Rowlands sample reveals a broad role mix that extends well beyond community pharmacy frontline staffing. Pharmacy Dispenser (42 listings, £13.02/hr) and Pharmacist (14 listings) are the largest pharmacy-category titles, but the feed also includes a substantial volume of Warehouse Operative (18), Delivery Driver (6), Pharmacy Student (10), Driver (5), and Warehouse Supervisor/Team Leader roles. Roles linked to Rowlands' Nucare and delivery infrastructure contribute meaningfully to the total.

This breadth of role types suggests the June 2026 figure may reflect an expansion in feed coverage — or a bulk upload of non-pharmacy corporate and distribution roles — rather than purely a community pharmacy staffing drive. PharmSee will track the Rowlands listing count through July and August to determine whether the figure stabilises at 150–200 (indicating a structural feed-coverage expansion) or reverts towards earlier levels.

For Rowlands' pharmacy-specific roles: the 42 Pharmacy Dispenser listings at £13.02/hr and 7 Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician listings at £16.11/hr carry explicit pay figures, placing Rowlands among the more transparent community chain employers in terms of salary disclosure in the June 2026 data.

Role mix across the community sector

Across the community chain total of 1,407 listings, pharmacist and pharmacist-manager grade roles represent a minority of the visible market. Dispenser and pharmacy assistant titles predominate at Boots, supermarket chains, and several mid-size independents. This pattern is consistent with year-round findings from PharmSee's vacancy tracking and reflects both the larger footprint of support-staff roles in community dispensary operations and persistently lower disclosure rates for pharmacist-grade community posts.

NHS Jobs continues to lead on pharmacist-grade listings: its 560-listing total contains 123 pharmacist-titled roles in PharmSee's 200-record sample (61%), versus a significantly smaller proportion in the community chain feeds.

Implications for pharmacy job seekers

The distribution of active vacancies varies sharply by role. Dispenser and pharmacy assistant candidates face the widest range of employers and the highest raw vacancy count. Pharmacist candidates see a market in which NHS hospital and PCN roles dominate disclosed-salary options, while community chain opportunities — numerous in absolute terms — more frequently advertise without a specific salary figure.
